I seem to have flare-ups of viral hepatitis every 1 to 2 years that include, vomiting, low grade fever, fatigue, weakness, constipation and light colored stools. Usually I am hospitalized 4 to 5 days, have to have potassium infusion before discharge due to low levels.

It was 1953 and I was a scrub nurse in the operation room. I suddenly felt very ill and all my joints were very painful. I was off work for 3 months, but eventually fully recovered from viral hepatitis. The diagnosis was 'some strange virus.' Years later I tried to give blood and was turned down saying I have had hepatitis B virus (HBV). Years after that I was told that what I experienced was a known variant of HBV.
