My father has undergone perineal urethrostomy for urethral stricture, a month back. He uses diapers but they are not holding the urine, and the urine starts dribbling when he stands up. He’s wetting his clothes and is quite frustrated.

I have had a bulbous urethral stricture (unknown etiology) since the age of 10. I have had multiple doctor’s office dilations through my teens (3 to 4 times a year), 3 urethrotomies in my 20s and 30s, and self-dilation from late 30s to the present. I am preparing (suprapubic catheter/no dilations) for a urethroplasty soon. I will post on the outcome in the next few months.

I developed a complete blockage of the urethra after bladder neck and TURP, as a result of bad surgery. I had to undergo further surgery to remove the blockage, and having been passing urine ok for 4 weeks. I have just been told that I have to self-dilate daily for at least the next 4 months! I am concerned that doing this, which is very painful, will make matters worse by aggravating the urethral stricture, not make it better.

I am 79 years old. Last November I underwent transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for urethral stricture. There is no relief and symptoms have rather accentuated. Frequency has considerably increased and there is burning at the tip while urinating. There is significant post void urinary volume.

I have undergone dilation of urethra done under local anesthesia for around 3 years and then have been on self-dilation for 10 years. Then I have undergone buccal mucosa augmenting surgery. Since the last six years the frequency of dilation has been once in 3 months. No permanent cure appears to be in store.

I’m going for urethra dilation with sedation later this month. My urologist mentioned there’s scarring and 90 percent blockage. He said after the surgery for urethral stricture I will have a catheter inserted for 3 to 6 days. I want to know how painful will this be after I wake up.

I have this problem of urethral stricture for the last 7 years, and the doctor suggested an operation but I didn’t and started using homeopathic medicine. It gives some sort of relief but no permanent cure. The thing is that it’s not the same every time when I pass urine, sometime it is normal and sometime it is more painful. I wondered and still I am not able to take the decision that what we should do whether go for operation or use of homeopathic medicine oar Unani medicine. When it is painful it irritates so much.

I crushed the urethral passage at 16 on a bike. I have had 7 dilations over the years with little success. I left it unchecked for 10 years till unable to cope, and my body grew a massive diverticulum in the tube between kidneys and bladder, so now I’m catheterizing twice daily with no help in sight.

I have been suffering from urinary retention since more than 4 months. I underwent cystoscopy and the urologist found urethral stenosis.

I had surgery to remove the scar tissue and I had the dilation in office procedure done. I always need to have a cystoscopy to see the status of the stricture.
