I have undergone 2 RUG (retrograde urethrogram) procedures and the doctors found I have urethral stricture in the proximal area. My chief complaints are spraying and triple streaming of urine. Almost every time I urinate, my underwear is damp with urine, and my pants. My urologist suggests urethroplasty but it is a difficult and dangerous operation they said; I don’t know what to do. I have a recent bilateral varicocele operation.

I had radiation seed implants for my prostate cancer a little over five years ago, called brachytherapy. It worked just fine, killed the cancer, and my PSA is down to 0.02. Now I have urethral stricture which was caused by my radiation. The urethra is all blocked up urinating 20 or more times a day, and urinary tract infections. It is painful to urinate and takes a long time starting and stopping as I go. Doctors tried to do a bladder scope; the tube could not get down the urethra. VA (Veterans Affairs) has sent me out of VA care to a private urology.

I get bladder infections all the time. My urethra is also narrow. I don't drink water at all. I started drinking water through the night and it seems to have helped a little. I was told I had a urethral stricture and a narrowing of the urethra, in about 1976. My doctor told me that because of the stricture and the narrowing it was easy for bacteria to get into the opening of the bladder and get stuck and because I was always at the beach it was a perfect environment for a bladder infection to grow. I had them once a month, or I remember them that often. I would always get a yeast infection after the bladder infection and also told I should drink water (up to 8 glasses) a day which I could never do for very long. I drank Coca Cola all day.

I have had a problem for a while of urethral stricture where the passage of urine took a very long time, it was only a trickle and when I thought I was finished, it wasn"t. When I stood up I started leaking again. I have now found that the only way I can urinate, is by standing up with a jug between my legs. The urine has a foul smell.

I am 2 weeks after urethral stricture surgery and am on a catheter. I have the urge to urinate all the time even though I have a catheter. It is hard to sit as it feels like prostate rather than my incision. I wonder if I should be experiencing this kind of discomfort 2 weeks after surgery!

I have a spraying problem. I think urethral stricture was caused by 6 weeks of taking an opioid painkiller.

I cannot urinate on my own because of urethral stricture. I have to empty using a catheter.

I am in the process of recovering from urethral stricture surgery. Here are some findings about recovery. It can be painful. There may be positions of your body that will exacerbate the pain. Standing alleviated mine. I strongly suggest you mark where the catheter bag tubes are placed on your leg, it will make things easier when changing bags, etc. There will be bleeding. Set an alarm during the night to empty your urine bag. It could overfill. Don't be overactive during recovery. Be patient. You will be sleeping on your back only.
