I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 12 years. Low carb is exceptionally helpful and good for maintaining blood sugar levels. Once you have side effects, not so easy to maintain, mostly because of potassium levels in chronic kidney disease caused by the type 1 diabetes (55 plus years now). Too many lows from not eating enough after injecting rapid acting insulin. Most helpful now is the Dexcom CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) that is worn on my abdomen; shows me when I'm going too high and too low. It is a life saver and a game changer! After all this, I am still here!
