With polymyalgia rheumatica I have extreme tiredness and a feeling as if I have blown a fuse when walking. I used to walk miles for pleasure, now walking the dogs is a punishment. I have a strange feeling in my hands and they still hurt when touched even after a year of formal diagnosis and treatment. I also have weakness in hands and arms. Steroids are responsible for translucent skin that bruises easily, severe acid reflux and night cramps. I had to buy an electric adjustable bed to get any real sleep.

I have experienced polymyalgia rheumatica for more than 20 plus years. I took steroids and it caused my pancreas and adrenal glands to stop functioning. Along with the use of steroids came a constant bruising with the slightest bump. I gave the doctors a chance to help me, which never happened. I was also on 42 units of insulin. I quit all on my own, got tired of being jerked around. I still have flare ups but take sleeve for bad times. I got diagnosed in my mid 40s and am 65 now.

I have loss of muscle mass and strength to do daily chores. I had a regular weight 85 kg for 30 years. Since treatment for polymyalgia rheumatica weight gain is 9.5 kg. The rheumatologist wanted me to eat more red meat and milk/cheese for calcium. I get pains walking down big steps. My big fear is falling down. I have problems trying to sit on grass, and get up again.
