My daughter was born with Poland syndrome in 2012 and she is fully functional with her affected left hand. We decided against surgical intervention until she can decide for herself. I wanted to write in to let people know that I believe there is a genetic or inheritance component to this syndrome. The Poland syndrome itself may not be passed down, but vascular malformations (which is what technically causes Poland syndrome) run in our family. My sister-in-law was born without a carotid artery on her left side and others have died of brain aneurysms at early ages. I just wanted to put this out there in the universe as an idea for people who have this syndrome and for their families. More research should be done about Poland syndrome. Thank you!
