I am allergic to everything; always breaking out in hives. I got poison ivy again, which takes about a month and a half of cold showers, to clear up. Found something interesting in the meantime. I had a good toothache, got some Orajel, and fixed the toothache. I still had the insane itch though. In agony, I grabbed whatever I had, Orajel! I still want to scratch it, but the edge is off, both on the poison ivy and the hives. Just mind you, I think I had rid all the oil off me before applying the Orajel.

I have come in contact with poison ivy or oak at least five times in my life. I am 56 now. It usually takes a week if not longer before I show symptoms, or rash begins. When I was a teen at camp the nurse used calamine lotion and my mom made oatmeal paste. As an adult, I have used calamine, oatmeal soap, cortisone, peroxide cold compresses. But out of desperation and most recent, as in I have poison as I type, I had a hunch and tried Neutrogena acne cream, yes acne cream. My word, it works.

I had a bad rash. I bought the poison ivy wash at a pharmacy and scrubbed the rash daily, treating with Ivarest after each time. Expensive treatments but they worked and soothed the itchy burning.

I got poison ivy about 4 months ago. My face was swollen and I went to the emergency room. I was given steroid shot and a prescription for steroids. Then I had to get another prescription. It finally cleared up. After that my eyes are dry. My face gets red around my eyes and itches a lot. I wonder if the ivy could have caused this.

Frist time I went to the USA, I touched poison ivy and it made me itch so much. I cleaned my body with water and soap and then I used Tiger balm on areas I itched. I felt better after 30 minutes. I brought the Tiger balm from Thailand. I just wanted to share my experience.

Calamine lotion is all I've ever known anyone to treat poison ivy with. Well, and cortisone.
