I am in the middle of diagnosing my neuropathic pain and decided I want to quit smoking. My doctor put me on bupropion for the cessation of smoking, and within the end of the first week I noticed I was standing longer, walking longer, and the pain was gone. When I go to see my neurologist I will ask him more about this.

Diabetes has caused my neuropathy. Gabapentin (Neurontin) helps with the pain but there is a fine line between being mentally alert and functional, or relief of pain - correct dosing is the key.

I have had chronic neuropathic pain for 18 years now. I tried everything out there trying not to use narcotics but finally I had to use narcotic pain medication for quality of life. I really wanted to die because the pain was so severe. I will always have some pain that will be a part of my life but I can now function and live life much better. I have tried tramadol, Lyrica, Cymbalta, many other medications and a spinal cord stimulator system. None of them worked for me but the following medications do work for me. I take Neurontin, Topamax, ibuprofen, Percocet and morphine. I take a low dose of morphine but it helps a lot. Percocet helps me the most with my pain. I tried everything.

My husband has so much pain now for over a year, and now he has lost his sight and can hardly walk. He cries in his sleep and cries all day. He is 43 years old and has always been in good health. They have sent him to Vancouver to see a doctor down there and they say he has peripheral neuropathy, idiopathic. He needs something for pain, he can't do it anymore. I'm really worried about him. He is saying some stupid things about dying.

I was told I have neuropathy, by my doctors 1 year ago. I take a couple of medications for it. While they have stopped the progression a lot of pain still exists. I have dead nerves and muscle damage. This disease needs more research for the younger crowd as well!

I have been on gabapentin for neuropathy, but it seems to take more and more of the medication. I wondered if there was not a topical solution that does some good.
