Petroleum jelly can be a bad idea considering it will trap the heat of the sunburn. Use a cooling natural Chapstick instead and then once the heat is gone use the jelly as a moisturizer.

When I was a teenager, I was at Cape Cod with my sister. I was her daughter's babysitter. I went to the beach and ended up with such a bad burn. I used Noxzema and smeared it over the burn. At the time, I believe it helped. I still love the beach. Looking forward to Hampton Beach soon.
