My cataplexy symptoms appeared first at age 16, as sleep paralysis and scary dreams. I've always had severe migraines and often blurred vision. I often fell asleep for short periods in class, in church and in social settings. I once found myself going to sleep driving at night with my 15 year old daughter. I was afraid to pull over and sleep so I allowed my daughter to drive. I cannot control the intense need to sleep, if only for a few seconds. Caffeine does not work.

My boyfriend had an attack yesterday evening. He couldn't move his leg for few minutes. His mother has been diagnosed with cataplexy. He has shown signs of sleepiness during the day, and poor sleep quality the past 2 years. We thought the 2 were cause and effect, but now may explore the possibility that he got this narcolepsy-cataplexy from his mother.

My husband shows behavior that could be related to narcolepsy or cataplexy. He also has Parkinson's. I wonder if both things are related.
