My husband of 42 plus years is a Vietnam veteran, has done three tours of duty. On June 5, 2017 he came into my room, pale, with breathing difficulty and appeared to be going into shock. I called 911; the squad transported him to a local hospital. At the local hospital, his blood chemistry warned of a myocardial infarction, and his right lung was full of fluid. From the local hospital, he was transported to a larger, better-equipped hospital where he spent nine days. Eight of those days, he had a drain on his right lung. Whether this was melioidosis or not, has yet to be diagnosed, but it is a strong possibility that it is. The doctor in charge of the ward asked me, his wife, whether he had been in Vietnam. The answer is of course yes. He also has multiple myeloma, and is undergoing chemotherapy for the cancer.
