No symptoms of macular degeneration (MD) until it turned wet in one eye. After seeing floaters and flashes at age 59, I went right in to see an ophthalmologist who diagnosed benign vitreous separation and drusen in both eyes. My regular optometrist rechecked it 6 months later and didn't like what he saw. He referred me to a retinal specialist who diagnosed MD in both eyes, dry at first. One eye progressed rapidly to wet, and I began seeing wavy telephone poles and wavy lines and smudges on the Amsler grid.

Loss of color perception, sparkles and wavy lines were my symptoms of macular degeneration. I also felt like there was something in my eye. Only the right is symptomatic. When I moved my head a certain way, it was like I could feel something kind of sloshing around in there. I'm thinking this might have been the leaking blood vessels. My retina was found to be on the verge of detachment and they said I needed to get to a specialist as soon as possible. I was 38.

My left eye became blurred and I instinctively tried to clear it by blinking, without success. When I went for my annual test a tiny area of concern was identified in both eyes. At that point I discovered the Amsler Grid test for macular degeneration and when I took the test I saw a dip in one section using my left eye and a slight ripple in the periphery of my right eye.

We had stopped in a gas station. Stretched with left eye closed and right eye opened. A truck sitting over to the side appeared to have an oval wheel so I checked with the other eye and wheel was round. Next day I went to the eye doctor and that doctor sent me to a retina specialist and that was back in December of 2008. I have wet macular degeneration in both eyes, my right eye we are done treating but still working to keep sight in left eye.

My symptoms of macular degeneration were wavy words when I would read. I have to place my left hand over my left eye in order to read. The words would still not be clear and black spots would occur. It's just aggravating and there is nothing that can be done.

I had blurred vision that I attributed to incorrect prescription glasses, but the doctor said my prescription was fine.
