My LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) was not awful. The worst of it was when the speculum was put in. Once it was positioned it wasn't bothersome any more. The injection with numbing medicine burned a bit but wasn't painful. After that it was smooth sailing. The procedure from speculum in to speculum out was 20 minutes. The actual LEEP was only a minute or two. I've had no bleeding or cramps since. I feel completely normal. This isn't awful. Don't be afraid.

I am a 45 year old woman living in Canada. First experience with an abnormal pap led to a colposcopy biopsy and then a LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure). The freezing was uncomfortable and hurt the most, the actual LEEP was fine and I had minimal cramping thereafter. It was not a terrible experience for me at all. I took it easy for recovery, didn't lift anything heavy and refrained from sexual activity. I worried about it more than I should have looking back.

I had a LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) done 2 days ago. They put me to sleep with a mild IV sedative. It was quick, no cramping or pain.

The nurse told me the numbing medication for LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) would make my heart race and just to breathe through it. It did make my heart race and my hands and feet started shaking, it made me feel panicky but the doctor told me it was important to stay still so I utilized the childbirth breathing I learned all those years ago when I had my first child. It felt very crampy and unpleasant and as soon as it was done and they left the room I started crying. It made me emotional.

My LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) experience was extremely painful and left me traumatized. I knew a girl that got it done a week before me and told me she didn’t feel anything. The shot for numbing felt like a pinch and when the doctor tested to see if I was numb, I was. But then I felt the electric wire. It was fast but extremely painful. I started crying and the doctor had to do it a second time in a row because she didn’t think it got everything the first time. The second time was just as painful. I still get emotional.

I've had LEEP two times and both went just fine. A bit of cramping and spotting for a day or two and that was it. I felt it wasn't invasive and went super quick! It went way better than I thought it was going to.

LEEP was a painful experience. The area was numb but I could still feel everything and I felt the burning sensation each time. A year or two later it left me with scarring. It has come back and when I got a biopsy done it showed an inconclusive result due to the scarring.
