There is little to no information on this anywhere - from treatment to diet for hydroxyapatite crystal disease (HCD). Anti-inflammatory drugs, rest and ICE (ice, compression and elevation) seem to be the only solution but I can’t get a grasp of how it originates, how long it lasts or if it will come back (and steps to prevent this). I had an ultrasound and X-ray and they confirmed HCD and said this is pretty rare, particularly in the knee.

I have suffered with arthritis for a long time now, resulting in 4 or 5 operations to remove pieces of bone. Now I have been diagnosed with hydroxyapatite crystal disease. My symptoms are that all my joints, ankles, right knee, and both thumbs seem to get attacked in rotation but with very little warning. I have been a HGV (heavy goods vehicle) driver all my working life lifting very heavy weights.

I have hydroxyapatite crystal disease and am of European background. Grandparents came from Hungary. I have this disease in all 4 major joints, shoulders, hips, and it is unbearable. After having needless rotator cuff surgeries I moved south away from cold weather and still am struggling with pain. MS Contin and oxycodone do not do the job.
