I am 52, and just have had my last period 2 months ago. I have been going 2 to 3 months between periods. This time, I have begun having hot flashes. They seem to be focused in my back, shoulders, and ear area. Before this, you couldn't get a room warm enough for me. Now I want it cold which my husband is fortunately happy about. Emotionally, I get angry much easier, and that is so unlike myself. I cried yesterday over something very minor. I work with children, so I think I will have to get on a hormone replacement. The flashes aren't so bad, but I have to be able to be patient and loving.

I have severe hot flashes that started 3 months ago. I tried over the counter menopausal supplements but didn’t get any relief. My doctor prescribed Effexor which worked immediately, I could only take half of the pill because it made me feel dazed and numb. I did gain weight and very quickly, 25 lb. just in 3 months. I stopped taking it and he put me on Brisdelle. I have been on it 5 weeks and it has made no difference whatsoever. I have the flashes approximately every 30 minutes or so during the day and I don’t know about at night except that I wake up burning up, wet with sweat, then I’m freezing a few minutes later. I have continued taking black cohosh and vitamin E along with the other treatments but that hasn’t worked either.

For at least 5 years I have been having maddening hot flashes. I am getting heat rash from my hot flashes. I cannot believe this is normal. My previous doctor had suspected an abnormality in my adrenaline gland. Unfortunately, he decided life was not worth living. I have not been able to get another doctor to take this seriously. I have been told to give it more time, but I cannot wear short sleeves because the rash covers my arms, yet clothing seems to lock the heat in. I’m not sure what to do next.

I had extreme anxiety, heart palpitations, profuse flushing, profuse sweating, and night sweats. I also had a feeling of being on the verge of passing out.
