It is 7 weeks on after surgery and I regret having a mechanical heart valve fitted, at 39. I should have had a tissue valve and then a mechanical when I'm told. It ticks loudly and all the time.

I had mechanical mitral valve put in. During surgery while stitching up, the heart started falling apart. I understand that not many patients survive this and not many surgeons would attempt to repair. But here I am. It is confusing to me as I cannot find information on this.

As a 9 year old I had a Glenn shunt in 1963, then as a 22 year old a tricuspid valve surgery (pig valve) in 1977 and as a 40 year old, another tricuspid valve surgery (pig valve) in 1998. Now I am 60 year old, this January!

I'm a patient. I had two heart valve replaced. My heart surgery was done on March 17, 2014 and at first I was scared as I never had surgery before. My doctor told me that I had to get it done. I just didn't want to see scars on my chest. I'm glad I got it done and I feel much better.
