With giardiasis I have cramping like you wouldn’t believe; like labor contractions.

My main symptom with giardiasis was not diarrhea, just loose stools. First symptom was foul smell when passing wind, like something was rotting inside of me. Then came the tiredness; I really struggled to keep my eyes open and I have ADHD. Then I got really bloated, three sizes larger in my pants. Finally I had very painful cramps which made me go to the emergency room.

I have giardiasis. Symptoms included very severe vomiting and stomach pains. Cramps and bloating and gas. I was first diagnosed with peptic ulcer. Gastroscopy was done where they took a biopsy of the duodenum due to prolapse. Biopsy result a week later showed that giardiasis parasite was severe in my stomach.

I recently had giardiasis after being in India. After 4 weeks of upset tummy, loss of appetite, feeling sick, acid reflux, tummy cramps, and on and off diarrhea I finally had a stool sample done via my general physician (GP), it tested positive and I was given 5 days of antibiotics. It is extremely unpleasant and made me feel low for so long. I have finished my antibiotics but am worried it is not cleared up, a revisit to the GP is a must now.

Two of my children had giardiasis when they were 3 and 5. We traveled 2 times to places where there were breakouts. My oldest daughter got it when she was around 3 and my younger child got it at about 6 months. We had very healthy kids, then over a 2 year period they both became sick all the time. The doctor would always tell us it was a virus. My husband finally yelled at the doctor to find out what was wrong with our children. They had colds, diarrhea, vomiting, upset tummies, and more. There were no medications in the US to treat giardiasis at the time so we went to the University of Hawaii and they had a doctor from India who did his homework and diluted adult medicines for the children. The medications were so strong they almost killed our oldest child. She missed about 2 months of school. Both kids were in the hospital for about 10 days. It was one of the worst experiences of our lives. I am writing this because my roommate just spent 8 days in the hospital with what he told us was renal failure when in fact he had giardiasis. I have just adopted a 3 year old little boy who still puts everything in his mouth and shares food with this man. I am super angry that he didn't tell me what it was until today, 6 weeks later. I am going to pay special attention to my son and hope he doesn't show any sickness. He has always been super healthy. Only 2 colds in his entire life and no other illnesses. This is a serious disease to get. My roommate lost over 35 lb in 4 weeks.

I have recently returned from a 3-month trip to the Northern Territory and Outback Queensland. For half that time I have had giardiasis. I visited 3 doctors on my travels. Only one diagnosed giardiasis and gave me antibiotics and it cleared up but returned again. I have watery, greasy, vile-smelling diarrhea, terrible smelling gas, headaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, and just feel sick in general. I am not sleeping very well as the gas and foul smell keep waking me up. I’m into my third day of antibiotics not much has changed yet. And this is the second lot in 4 weeks. I am an active person and sick of being sick.

Never in my life have I had such severe and long lasting diarrhea. It started with extreme stomach cramps then woke me in the middle of the night and I had to rush to the toilet. I felt better after 3 days and then half way through the day it was back with a vengeance. I am now up to day 5 and waiting to see the doctor. I hope they have an answer for me and some treatment as this is getting ridiculous. My husband has had giardiasis before and it seems a lot like it but without the vomiting.

Diarrhea was not a symptom for me. Lack of energy, increased pain throughout my body from inflammation.
