My fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy on my two nodules on the right side of my thyroid, done on August 4th, 2020 was horrible. While taking tissue from my thyroid the most horrible pain went through the right side of throat into my jaw and gums. My results came out negative for cancer but I couldn't lean my head back for a few days and had this unsightly bruise from the needle holes down to my chest and almost to my right breast for 2 weeks. Never again!

I had the fine needle aspiration biopsy 2 1/2 days ago. They gave me lidocaine, and the biopsies didn’t hurt. However the doctor hit a nerve or something and shooting sharp electric type pain seared through the front of my neck to the back. Bruising started within hours. After about 8 hours I had serious pain in my neck, jaw and teeth, and was up all night. I iced, took ibuprofen and pain killers, and was resting. I couldn’t swallow well either. I still have pain and bruising - shouldn’t have happened!

I had a fine needle aspiration biopsy done 2 nights ago on the right side. In Taiwan they do not use anesthetic for many procedures so I had to just toughen up for it. It was tolerable but surely noticeable that there was a needle in deep, and some pressure. My neck feels tight and uncomfortable 2 days later with some numbness.

The doctor used a big bore needle instead of fine needle for the aspiration biopsy. He hit a vein, removed it, and went in again cutting some muscle tissue. The nodule is calcified so the need to be extra forceful was necessary to get the sample. Ten days past and I still have a lot of pain. There is swelling and bruising. This may be caused from my fibromyalgia.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy hurts. I have a sore throat. I hope to never have to do this again; 5 sticks!
