I had fundoplication in 2001 for aspiration asthma caused by GERD. In 2014 I began having episodes of shortness of breath. Again I was diagnosed with aspiration asthma and a paraesophageal hernia. In January 2016 I had hernia repair. In EGD done 1 month after surgery I learned previous fundoplication was failing and evidence of GERD was found. I am having symptoms of GERD and aspiration again. I suspect I will be undergoing further fundoplication. I am very discouraged and depressed over my situation. I recently was diagnosed with pneumonia and pleurisy. I have been on prednisone for weeks, and still feel short of breath. This challenge is very difficult for me to deal with. I learned last September that I also have emphysema from second hand smoke. I worry what the future holds for me. I am 66 years old. I was not planning on feeling like this in my golden years.
