I am a 38 year old new mother. I started having a horrible headache shortly after being released from the local hospital which treated me for blood pressure. It was not eclampsia, and there was no protein in urine. I came home and the next day I had constant cough and wheezing. I couldn’t breathe and went back to the big hospital. My pulse was low, and I thought I had double pneumonia. I yelled at them I couldn’t breathe they gave Ativan for anxiety. I woke up the next day with a tube in my throat. I recovered from the ARDS but I haven’t been the same mentally. I suffer with severe depression.

Because I was in septic shock and in the operating room I didn’t know what was happening. I was on ventilator for a month before I was alert enough to understand what happened. It happened so fast. One day I was fine the next I coded three times and nearly died.

Coughing blood; labored, crackling breathing, and passing out were my symptoms of ARDS.
