Two years ago my right thigh enlarged. I just got a large lipoma in the right rib cage. I have a history of Factor V Leiden. I had a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the right calf 11 years ago. The doctor diagnosed it as peripheral vascular disease (PVD). Four months later I had a huge painful mass in the right thigh. Ultrascan showed a tiny lipoma on top. Vascular studies ruled out PVD; showed a fatty mass. Now I have 3 large masses in the abdomen. I saw many doctors until my old surgeon recognized lipodystrophy. Sent me for colonoscopy for 8 year history of diarrhea. Normal. I want to avoid a major surgery. Now I am asking for a dermatologist for local extraction.

My mother-in-law was born in 1943. She lives with lipodystrophy. When she was diagnosed the CDC said she was one of 3 cases. She's recently been diagnosed with NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) cirrhosis. Due to it being a fatty condition, I'm wondering if it's related. She has far removed annually and is in pain constantly.

I suffer from abnormal accumulation of fat on my inner thighs and legs. A doctor has diagnosed this as lipedema and advised surgery. Another has diagnosed it as lipodystrophy and advised liposuction. I am confused. The problem was noticed only about 8 months ago. I am 63 and underwent weight loss (bariatric) surgery in 2008.The fat accumulation on the legs is painful at times.
