I have had chronic severe nerve damage in my lower sacroiliac region of my back. Severe chronic muscle spasms have been occurring since prescription change from oxycodone, Soma, Valium to methadone, Zanaflex, Cymbalta and Lyrica. Severe, debilitating pain radiates around my stomach muscles giving me lower abdominal pain, bloating and gas. I am using simethicone to help with gas pain and taking Zanaflex for spasming in muscles, but, it is not working as well as Soma did, but doctors won't prescribe it.

Currently I am dealing with my second Bartholin cyst in a week. The first one resolved spontaneously after a few days of pain. The second one developed 2 days after the first one, on the opposite side. I did sitz baths 3 or 4 times a day, to no avail. Finally I went to the doctor who drained it. The injections of lidocaine to numb the area were very painful, especially in an already painful area. It is fluid filled again today and I could cry with the pain just walking brings. I'm going to try one of the home remedies listed here.

Last year I had severe stomach turning, vomiting, and painful upper abdomen. I got every test known done and all were clear, but now I have pain in my upper abdomen but with swelling of stomach. I went from size 8 to 12/14 since start of November. I was being sick again, turning stomach, and this comes and goes. My bowels are dark and sticky or I have diarrhea. I am drinking Dioralyte as A and E said I have a bug. I had to go last week as I had pins and needles over my face, legs, arms, and vomiting blood. I thought I was having a stroke.

I have been having upper right abdominal pain for a number of months now. Recently I had liver enzymes and pancreatic enzymes checked. Nothing remarkable. Pain still exists and seems to get worse with food. The doctor told me it was muscles. I don't have my gallbladder, had gastric bypass many moons ago, and did have a bowel resection due to diverticulitis and malabsorption and extensive diarrhea. I am tired and need help.

I have been diagnosed with genetic chronic pancreatitis. At age 7 I had severe abdominal pain. At age 16 I started having daily nausea. At age 30 I ate a heavy meal and was in pain for 5 days. That's when daily nausea began and I vomited for 20 years causing me to lose all my teeth. The pain and inflammation became unbearable. But with a strict bland diet, enzyme pills and pain medication things are better. I have pancreatic stones and am looking forward to their removal.

My abdominal pain began approximately 13 years ago. It comes and goes, sometimes just an annoying pain, other times pain gets worse, and I have nausea, gas, vomiting, diarrhea a couple times a month, and tiredness. All the time, I have loss of appetite, weight loss, and shortness of breath sometimes.

I have upper right abdominal pain regularly; like most of the time. Sometimes twice a week, sometimes once a month. But I have noticed that it's there. I don't know what I should do. And I am very thin too. My height is 5 ft. 6 inches, my age is 23 and my weight is 41 kg. I am very much worried about it. I eat a lot but nothing works.

After 4 different gastroenterologists, 2 colonoscopies, 3 endoscopies and several blood works, I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) 5 years ago. My abdominal pain lasts a maximum of 1 hour and is located in the upper abdomen and in a count from 1 to 10, the pain is a 20. I have passed out from it and given morphine twice. I finally discovered that vomiting helps and Tums are useful. I haven’t got those episodes since 2 years ago when I started taking antidepressants (my doctor says that IBS is somehow related to my mood).

Comment from: Roger Vett, 55-64 Male (Patient) Published: July 06

Every time I eat I get pain in my lower abdominal area which is sickening and fatiguing, making me want to go into sleep. It is set off by anything I eat, be it large or a small intake of food. By large I mean a sandwich and small is a few nuts, berries or fruit, and it is destroying my appetite. I dread having to eat because of what is to come.

A day before my periods occurs every month I experience such a heavy pain under my abdomen on both sides and back pain. It continues till after 4 days then the 5th day my pelvic pain will still be present. I don’t know what the cause of it is, and some months are worse.

Although I didn't lose sleep from my abdominal pain I still fell asleep and awoke with pain. My stomach is hotter than normal, I feel like I am going to pass out from losing my breath, I think I maybe even having bloody spotting when I wipe, and I have taken all the pain pills that I can take. I am not sure about the bloody spotting. It maybe from hemorrhoids. The stool softening powder I use for methadone sometimes gives me hemorrhoids.

My 17 year son is a top conditioned soccer athlete. The last few days of practice have caused some stomach discomfort during running. It is the only time he feels this during the day. He has no nausea, sleeps well, eats well, and has normal stools. I don’t know what could suddenly cause this in the last week.

I had severe abdominal pain for decades. The first problem was when I was in my early 20s. I had 7 golf ball sized cysts on my fallopian tubes. I had surgery to remove them. Then I got a uterine fibroid that grew to the size of a cantaloupe. I had a partial hysterectomy for that problem. The abdominal pain persisted still. After decades of going to doctors I finally found a gastrointestinal (GI) specialist who would tackle and diagnose my problems. He diagnosed microscopic colitis, SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), hiatal hernia, and abdominal adhesions from my previous surgeries. I had surgery to remove the adhesions and that pain was gone immediately. I've finally been able to find ways through diet (FODMAP elimination diet and a vegan diet) and exercise to manage my colitis, SIBO, and hiatal hernia. These problems are difficult to distinguish because they all cause pain and similar symptoms. There are good GI doctors out there who can help you diagnose your problems. I'm proof! Best of luck.

I have been having upper abdominal pain off and on for years. I often feel a lump at the edge of my left rib cage. The pain is a constant ache. I can now see the lump when standing and it feels hard and lumpy. My doctor believes there is nothing nasty going on.

I have had severe lower abdominal cramps for two days. I have bloating, and it is tender to touch; with several hours in duration. Cramping begins two inches above navel and goes down into pelvic region. Eating makes pain worse.

Comment from: GBton, 55-64 Male (Patient) Published: January 24

I have abdominal pain when I lie on my sides, right or left. It stays until I sit or stand up and is very painful. It goes from my sternum down to my navel area and seems like my stomach is bloated. As I go to sit up the pain intensifies to extreme but pans off fast once seated. I did have a double heart bypass 10 weeks ago and still have the rib and chest pain associated with that but it is now minor. This has been going on for about five days and is only active when I lie down, which has affected my ability to sleep.

Comment from: Achy10, 65-74 Female (Patient) Published: June 07

I have a very sharp pain around my right side abdominal area, below my waist. It is very sharp, almost burning like. Makes me wince and cry out because it happens suddenly. I have a bad back and take many medicines, but this doesn't feel like constipation pains, or like the pain I had when I had an ischemic colitis attack before. I am worried. I nearly died when that happened.

Comment from: yaamus, 55-64 Male (Patient) Published: May 06

I have pain in my belly just below my navel that eases as soon as I urinate or have a bowel movement and these are normal looking. I have no swelling and the pain in my stomach is most aggravated during the night time when the pain is considerably worse.

I have had severe abdominal pain for about a year now. I have had CT scans x-rays and a colonoscopy and everything has been normal. But any time I eat I am in pain, bloating and bad gas. The doctors say nothing is wrong but I live in pain.

I have had stomach pain for about 6 days now. The first 3 days pain was located at the upper part of my pelvic area and every 20 minutes I felt like urinating. I went to the doctor and took medicine for 3 days, but still the pain stays in my abdomen. I went to the doctor again and he has said it is the food I ate. I took medicine for 3 days again but, but I still feel the pain until now. The doctor did ultra sound and said there was no problem, just a little with my intestine.

Comment from: Cookiemedic, 55-64 Female (Patient) Published: May 20

I have been having a strange abdominal pain/tingling/tightening anywhere from a couple a day to frequent attacks that last approximately 2 minutes or less. They are usually followed by a hot flash lasting the same amount of time. The pain severity seem to match the intensity of the 'power surge'. I have an aunt who died from pancreatic cancer, my mother from metastatic melanoma and her cousin also died from pancreatic cancer. Ultrasound found nothing. I am scheduled for a CT. When my breast revealed a lump (8 months ago), I stopped my Prempro and the pains started soon after. The lump has not grown and is monitored every 6 months.

I have abdominal pain under the rib cage in right quadrant and now it goes to the left quadrant and around my back. I have had the gall bladder removed. I am taking a protonic and probiotics. I have been diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for some time but it has never been this bad. I have had CT scans of kidneys, liver, and pancreas. It was clear but I worry about cancer of the pancreas.

I am experiencing upper stomach pain, with feeling of sudden chills, light headache, nausea, some vomiting, and a 'weird' feeling. It has happened three times. I had a severe case 6 years ago, and collapsed for 2 to 3 minutes while vomiting.

There's a pinching feeling in my stomach, almost like a sharp scraping of the walls or like something is pinching the walls in, from inside my stomach. It happens a while after I eat, and I also feel it in my intestines sometimes as well.

I have abdominal pain on my lower left side. This pain moves all over my body, mostly on my muscle areas, arms, and legs. Some say it is stomach cancer caused by smoking. I have quit smoking and I'm not drinking any acid drink, not eating any sort of meat, salt, and fish oil, and many more but the pains are getting worse and my throat has sores.

Comment from: Maggie27, 55-64 Female (Patient) Published: June 04

I have dreadful pain in the lower part of my tummy near my groin up to and around the side of my back on the right side. I have had my gall bladder out, and appendix. My womb was removed but I still have my ovaries. The pain is constant. I had lots of different medicines, but nothing takes the pain way. I cannot lay on my right side or walk more than a few steps without having to rest. The doctor said it could be adhesions. Ultra sound shows nothing.

Comment from: Mo, 25-34 Female (Patient) Published: March 25

I have a pain in my abdomen that is right below my rib cage on my right side. The pain has been going on for about 3 days and I am concerned as to what it might be. I have had pancreatitis in the past and this does not feel like that and I have no appendix.

Comment from: lpieters, 45-54 Female (Patient) Published: February 28

I have for the past week had lower abdomen pain (center and left side. My appendix was removed when I was 13) but beginning of this week I awoke to excruciating pain on the lower left side. I immediately though of ovary but after an hour or so it went away. Day after day I have had pain in the middle lower abdomen but mild and today I all of a sudden I have bad pain where I cannot sit or even lift up my leg to walk. I have always had a spastic colon which makes it more difficult for myself to know if it is something else or not. My urine is a very dark color yellow and foggy.

I have abdominal pain. It’s not gas pain but it hurts like menstrual pain only the whole abdomen hurts. I’ve had CT scans, MRI, sonograms and X-rays and nobody can give me an answer. The pain wakes me up (when I finally get to sleep). It hurts whether I eat or not. It hurts continually, I take a tramadol twice a day but it doesn't help. I’ve been to at least 5 doctors, no one tries to help me out. I’m in pain right now, I’m depressed over it. I’m 77.

Comment from: Alice, 35-44 Female Published: October 02

I experienced the mild abdomen pain at around 3 inches left and around 2 inches down from the navel and I also got a frequent feeling of thirst and also observe a mild change of colour of my stool that is slightly brown, the colour is usually in the present in the starting stool. And from about six months I also got stress in my mind due to bad dreaming which I consider serious. The Doctor prescribed me 1)L-cin and 2)Dyoflux and he told me that I might have an infection in my upper GI.

I believe I have ischemic colitis. I have been to an emergency room (ER) four times and denied admission four times. I saw a gastroenterologist and he thought it might be bacterial infection but stool cultures are all negative. The general doctor thought it might be diverticula flare up but it was not seen on not contrast CT, though I presented with both kidney and abdominal pain in the ER. I have high sodium, high chloride, elevated bilirubin, elevated ALT, elevated CPR, and high white count. My symptoms are high white blood count 19.8, acidosis, low amylase on multiple blood tests, pain after eating, on left side of abdomen diffuse, not in one spot, significant under left lower rib cage, consistent fever of 99.4, weakness/dizziness, low blood pressure, kidney pain (left sided) and sudden swelling in left leg.

Comment from: worried mom, Female (Caregiver) Published: October 02

My 16-year-old son woke up a year ago with a stomachache and a headache and has had both, nonstop ever since. He has been to GIs, had two endoscopies, a colonoscopy, a brain MRI, a CT scan of his appendix, numerous blood panels and stool samples to check for parasites. The tests showed some inflammation in his stomach, as well as his ilium. He has been tested for allergies, which all came back normal. No medication has helped his stomach pain or headache. He wakes up and goes to sleep with the pain, which spikes throughout the day. The doctors don't know what is wrong and so they are slapping the IBS label on him, with which I totally disagree. A healthy boy just doesn't wake up one morning with a stomachache and headache that lasts (so far) for this long. Next month, I'm taking him to a new doctor. Hopefully, the doctor will be proactive and help my son get better.

I have to wonder why doctors never ask if you've been exercising more than usual. All of these symptoms of abdominal pain can be caused by a pulled or strained muscle. Why not look for a simple explanation before jumping to something serious!
